Nneka would be performing live at Jazzhole (Awolowo road, Ikoyi) on the 12th of March, 2009. She first gained public attention in 2004 when she performed as an opening act for dancehall star Sean Paul at Hamburg Stadtpark. After releasing her debut EP ‘The Uncomfortable Truth’, she performed on her first tour in April 2005, playing shows around Europe. Her first album ‘Victim of Truth’ was released in Germany, England, France, Netherlands, Nigeria and Japan. In February 2008 she released her second album, ‘No Longer at Ease’. The title of the album is taken from a novel of the same name by Chinua Achebe and mostly talks about the plight of the Niger Delta and corruption in Nneka’s homeland (Nigeria). The album combines a winning mix of soul, hip-hop and reggae. She was nominated in three categories for the 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards, and won an award for Best African Act at the 2009 MOBO Awards.
In November, 2009, Nneka toured the United States where she performed shows in New York City, Vienna (Washington DC), Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco and also appeared on the David Letterman Show as a musical guest. Her first US album, Concrete Jungle was released on February 2, 2010.
Her new single “The Uncomfortable Truth” was picked as the iTunes Single of the week for 1/26 – 2/1 while one of her track ‘Kangpe’ is featured as a soundtrack on the EA Sports FIFA 2010 video game.
