Festac Ultra Lounge, a luxurious venue known for its African cuisine by day, and upscale African parties by night will not only house the launch of this business, but also be the first restaurant to offer a line of Violet’s Cakes to its VIP customers. The launch will open with a tea party and cake tasting reception at 6pm at Festac Ultra Lounge featuring music by CeeYo’s very own DJ El Boogie. Guests will dine on both Festac cuisines as well Violet’s Cakes for dessert. Guests will also sample drinks from the new cocktail menu. Attendees will have the chance to mingle while learning more about Violet’s Cakes, and each attendee will be entered for a chance to win a free Celebration Cake for their next special event. This portion of the event will close with a red carpet reception, which will also usher in the afterparty at 10pm.

“This final top 30 show has been a superb experience for all of us,” said
Director Peter Bode. “The contestants understood what was at stake and
they outdid themselves. We are proud of every single one of them and we
expect that the viewers will continue to vote in their favourites.”

The show got off to a spectaular start with the upbeat performance of
Nsikak Umoh who crooned ‘I want it that way’ by Backstreet Boys to the
delight of the audience. Phunky Sings was next with an unforgettable
version of Vanessa Williams ballad ‘Save the best for the last’. Sanzye
gave a good show with her take on George Michael’s ‘Careless Whisper’.
Sly 1 got the audience moving with with the reggae hit by Jimmy Cliff ‘I
can see clearly’. For Stephen Onochie, it was a charged rendition of Peabo
Bryson’s classic, ‘Celebrate my love’ which compelled Yinka Davies to join
him in a soulful duet. Diwari ‘s performance of ‘Total Eclipse’ by Bonnie
Tyler was emotional and remarkable, while Menim channelled a powerfully
sensual Anita Baker with her presentation of ‘Sweet Love’. Another Love
song made its way to the stage with the Diana Ross classic ‘Endless Love’,
which was sweetly performed by Sophyn. A.Y.O performed one of 2011’s
biggest songs, ‘Grenade’ by Bruno Mars that had the audience sing-along.
The night of amazing performances was brought to a fitting end with
Mecinda’s dramatized and powerful performance of the 90’s hit by Brandy
‘I wanna be down’, the audience and judges gave the diva-with-the-attitude
a standing ovation for her outstanding effort.

After the results this week, the wild card show comes up next where the
judges pick exceptional performers from the top 30 who will take to the
stage once more to sing their hearts out for the viewers’ votes. There has
been a lot of speculation from fans and followers of Nigerian idol as to
what the final number of finalists on the show will be this season. Last
year, it was a top 13 final even sister show, American Idol, maintains the
same format. The producers of the show have chosen to keep mum about their
plans on the show, assuring viewers that it would be worth the wait.
“We cannot say at this point, what new twists and turns we have this
month, said Project Manager Tiwa Medubi. Essentially, it is up to our
capable judges; the viewers will have to watch out for what happens next.
We promise that it will be electrifying and unexpected, and they will
definitely love it!”

It was all smiles at the African Bar, Oriental Hotel, venue of this week’s Industry Nite which hosted Alapomeji Records boss 9ice as he reunited with long-time friends and crew mates ID Cabasa, Lord of Ajasa and others.

9ice who used the opportunity to celebrate his birthday was seen discussing and sharing jokes with long-time friend, collaborator and producer ID Cabasa in one of the backstage rooms. Cabasa who heads CODED Tunes played a major part in producing 9ice’s first two albums – ‘Certificate’ and ‘Gongo Aso’.

After ‘Gongo Aso’ was released 2008, Cabasa gradually played lesser roles in 9ice’s music and eventually became a guest producer on subsequent albums ‘Tradition’ and ‘Versus’. Reports say 9ice also alienated himself from former CODED Tunes allies including 2Phat.

At Industry Nite on Wednesday January 18, 9ice also met up with long-time friends such as rapper Lord of Ajasa and pop act Jah Bless and even called both artistes on stage to perform ‘Le fenu so’ and ‘Pass me the ganja’ respectively.

Other acts that performed at the event are Alapomeji acts Seriki and Snow, as well as ex-Alapomeji acts Ajayi Brothers. Others are Tiwa Savage, Vector, DJ Jimmy JATT, JJC, Coded Tunes rapper oLamide, Dammy Krane and others. Popular faces that attended include Mo’Hits boss Don Jazzy, Dr SID, Terry G, Modenine, Sexy Steel and others.

Where has Dbanj been over the past few weeks?

Well he’s been working on his video for Oliver Twist, and hasn’t been in the country.

It looks like he was able to get a good number of international acts together to join him in the Oliver Twist video. From what we can spot we’re guessing Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Big Sean, Manny Fresh, Pusha T, Hit Boy, SC & Mike Dean will all make appearances in the video. Oh yeah we also heard Noni Zondi is supposed to make an appearance too… We def wont mind if that’s true.

Let us keep informing people, visit CNN, NY1, or the local stations in your states, send them pictures and videos of what is happening in Nigeria, New York, London, Houston , Dallas and other states with Nigerians protesting.

Nigeria must change, enough is truly enough. If we do not fight against this system now, our children’s children will grow up under the same condition or worse in Nigeria.

This is much deeper than fuel subsidy, we demand a Government that will develop the country so we are developed world and not keep “developing”

I am very proud of the Nigerian youths that are working and taking this matter into their own hand to fight this system.

Industry Nite – Davido

The intimate event opening drew a very eclectically diverse crowd. A special indulgence, in the form of a sensual musical presentation in a capella, captivated receptive guests with nostalgic sounds from recording artist Tolumide. The evening concluded with creative technologist, curatorial host, and occasional orator- Ade Abayomi Olufeko, delivering a very unique lyrical flow with warm words welcoming the month long opening.

The coupling of emerging and established artists featured that evening, included Hassan Kirkland (MFA) – North Carolina, Aniekan Udofia – Washington DC, Stanley Agbontaen – Washington DC, Eugene Ankomah – London UK, Ade Abayomi Olufeko – New York City. The style of art ranged from inspiring digital abstract art to modern contemporary works. The aspiration of the event was to promote the African signature restaurant, to entertain, educate, and inform the media and the community about the featured artists and their passion for their craft-artwork.

The show is part of a continuum of events in a traveling format, produced by Visual Collaborative. In the “Visual Grandeur” opening, local favorite Aniekan Udofia was introduced and docketed by Ade Olufeko to be watched. He has been commissioned to execute colossal murals around the Washington, D.C. area.
